Millions of South Africans depend on the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grants for essential living expenses such as food, rent, and utilities. In an important update for 2025, SASSA has announced changes to its grant payment schedule for August and September 2025.
The updated schedule is designed to speed up payment processing, reduce overcrowding at pay points, and improve the overall safety and efficiency of grant distribution. Beneficiaries should take note of the new dates to ensure they collect their grants without delays.
Why the Payment Date Changes Matter
SASSA’s decision to space out payment dates addresses several ongoing issues:
- Reduced Overcrowding – By separating grant categories across different days, long queues and crowding at payment points are minimized.
- Better Safety for Beneficiaries – Elderly and disabled recipients can collect grants without the risks associated with large gatherings.
- Operational Efficiency – Staff and payment systems face less strain, allowing smoother transactions.
- Extra Verification Window – Beneficiaries undergoing verification can still access funds without waiting until the next payment cycle.

August 2025- New SASSA Payment Dates
SASSA has confirmed a staggered payment plan for August 2025:
- Older Persons Grants – Tuesday, 5 August 2025
- Disability Grants – Wednesday, 6 August 2025
- Children’s Grants (Child Support Grant and Foster Care Grant) – Thursday, 7 August 2025
SRD R370 Grant payments will not follow the same schedule. Instead, they will be processed later in August. Beneficiaries will receive individual SMS notifications with their specific payment dates, which will depend on:
- Banking arrangements
- Verification status
An extraordinary payment window is also scheduled for older persons whose grants were temporarily suspended due to income verification. Once they submit the required documents, they can collect their funds during August itself.
September 2025 – Updated SASSA Payment Dates
The staggered payment approach will continue into September 2025:
- Older Persons Grants – Wednesday, 3 September 2025
- Disability Grants – Thursday, 4 September 2025
- Children’s Grants – Friday, 5 September 2025
For the SRD R370 Grant, payments will be made between 24 September and 30 September 2025. Confirmation messages will be sent to beneficiaries before the disbursement.
What Beneficiaries Should Do
To ensure smooth grant collection, beneficiaries should:
- Update Personal & Banking Details – Incorrect or outdated details can cause payment delays.
- Submit Verification Documents Promptly – For those flagged for income verification, ensure submission of updated IDs, proof of income, or other required documents.
- Follow SMS Notifications – Payment dates for SRD grants will be sent via text, so keep your registered mobile number active.
- Plan Collection Days – Avoid peak times by collecting grants later in the day if possible.
